Moulding the Future of the Nation
All her life.. It's like a dream job.. A career, a profession of high integrity. A passion that can spread the language of love to the future of the nation. A dream of helping the nation in moulding the future and nurturing each individual.
Since young, she was told that it was the perfect profession. From all the drama series which she has watched, they were forever dedicated. They were all able to go the extra mile to help the little ones. In the end, in exchange of the effort and hard work put in, a feeling of satisfaction. By looking at how the young have grown over the years and how they become significant individuals, really meant a great deal to them. With that, they have the strength to help them press on and handle the daily challenges with pride.
In the end, all these are just unrealistic portrayal of the directors or scriptwriters. It is not the case in reality. Maybe that's why there's this Chinese saying, "现实是残忍的". Meaning, the reality is cruel.
In order to make this dream come true, it goes a long way. She has to go through a minimum of 13 years of education in local primary, secondary and tertiary level. Then, she needs to go through a minimum of 2 years in training. After the training, she has to go under probation for a year. If she fails to do so, she has a lump sum of money to pay off due to a 3 years bond. After the probation, she has to work her ass off so that she does not get a D grade for her appraisal.
Oh, and not to mention that "work" is not just her sole responsibility. This involves many roles and other job titles. Quoting from a friend's blog, the work of this so-called "professional" (it's "so-called" cos the society does not see her as a professional. They feel that nobody is indispensable. Anyone, so long as they hold a certain qualification can do all that of her job.) is/are as follow:
Mother
Nanny
Maid
Researcher
Presenter
Actor
Clown
Customer service operator
Slave
Counsellor
Display Artist
Artist
Policeman
Security guards
Dart board
Magazine editor
Designer
Spoil spot
Punching bag
Standing Mannequin
Entertainer
Events coordinator
Receptionist
Flower vase
Cleaner
Ushers
The list goes on and on. Yet, there're people who still thinks that her job is easy and relaxing, having to be able to enjoy long breaks which others don't get. Talking about the breaks, that's just a makeup for the time lost during work days. A typical work day can last a total of more than 10 hours! That includes missing the important life events, a lost in family life, a neglect of friendship bonding, a lack of communication hours with the loved ones,etc...
During these 7 years of dedication, her only goal in life was just to be able to help and care for the young ones. She is not interested in promotion, getting As during appraisal, recognition, etc... She sacrifices her time, money, has to be an all-time role-model, not being able to keep up with trends when it comes to attire... All these, just for the sake of the little ones.
In return, all she gets is a system of craps. A system that states, if she does not perform above her daily responsibilities, she gets a D grade and that in turn can lead to the loss of her dream. A system that says no "extra miles" to be done on Saturdays, holidays, 12 p.m. to 12.45 p.m. daily (even when she's missing her lunch break to just go the extra mile)... A system that states no visiting to little ones' homes to give them extra help. A system that says that if the little ones do not perform, she in turns gets a lower grade during appraisal which in turn leads to mark the end of her dream again. It's like a vicious cycle.
No wonder more and more of those in the same shoes as hers are leaving and giving up their passion. It's not a loss of passion. It's a loss of true, sincere, dedicated beings due to the SYSTEM!
